Growing up one of my favorite children’s books was “Something from Nothing” by, Phoebe Gilman. In the book a young boy has a treasured blanket made by his grandfather. Over the years the blanket becomes tattered and he asks his grandfather to fix it before his mother throws it out. His Grandfather makes the blanket into a coat and when that gets tattered something else, until the treasured blanket becomes a simple, but beautiful button. The principles of creating something from another seemingly useless item has become a theme of my life. As my husband and I have steered our family of, now seven, through the uncertain waters of frequent unemployment, trying to piece together our dreams, I have found myself creating something from seemingly nothing. This site is about sharing what I have learned and am learning along the way.
